Why a high fat diet may be the most healthy

Even yesterday as I sat in the local Gluten free meeting I attended, I heard reference made to fat as if it were the evil ingredient that is making most Americans obese.  If this were true, I don’t think I would have lost 30 lbs last year because my diet was roughly 70% fat.  Not only did I lose weight, but my lab values became normalized and my blood sugar was stabilized. Most of my symptoms of fibromyalgia are completely gone.  How can this be?

The answer lies in some basic biochemistry. By adopting a diet high in healthy, natural fats - organic coconut oil, palm oil, nuts, grass fed beef, pasture raised poultry, avocado, and high omega 3 eggs, I have provided my body with the necessary nutrients for optimal brain health. In addition, I have limited my protein intake to levels that prevent leptin and other hormones from interfering with my weight loss.

The human body is not meant to use glucose and carbohydrates as primary fuel. True, the brain needs glucose, but the amount of glucose needed daily is equal to about a teaspoon of sugar and the body can manufacture this from dietary fats.  When looking at the strain that eating a high carb diet puts on the entire insulin production mechanism, it is clear that burning fat for fuel is a much better option that prevents diabetes, heart disease, and cancer, not to mention obesity.
